Cost Per Unit Calculator
Calculate total production cost and cost for each unit.
Cost Per Unit Calculator result
Formula, assumptions & limitations
Inputs used: Fixed costs allocated to this production run ($); Variable costs for this production run ($); Usable units produced; Selling price per unit ($).
Method: Total entered cost = allocated fixed costs + variable costs. Each per-unit amount divides by usable output; margin after entered costs divides selling price minus entered unit cost by selling price.
This is a planning allocation, not a GAAP gross-margin statement. Use costs from the same production run and count usable—not merely started—units. Scrap, rework, freight, tax, overhead allocation and capacity changes can change the result.

How this tool works
Total relevant production cost is divided by the number of usable units produced, with fixed and variable cost entries kept visible for review.
Assumptions
Fixed and variable costs cover one production run, and the denominator is usable output from that same run. The entered selling price is compared only with the costs entered here.
Limits to know
The output depends on which fixed, variable, scrap, and rework costs are entered and on usable—not merely started—units. Accounting treatment and changing production volume can alter the result.
