Formula, assumptions & limitations

Inputs used: Eligible sales credited ($); First-tier rate (%); Tier breakpoint ($); Rate above breakpoint (%); Noncommissionable threshold ($); Returned or canceled sales ($); Commission-dollar clawback ($); Base pay for this period ($); Fixed performance bonus ($).

Method: After the entered threshold and returns reduce credited sales, the first rate applies up to the tier breakpoint and the second rate applies only above it. The entered dollar clawback then reduces commission without going below zero.

This models two marginal tiers, not a retroactive accelerator. Confirm whether the written plan is marginal or retroactive and verify quota timing, splits, draws, caps, collections, clawbacks, and applicable wage law.

How this tool works

Net commissionable sales subtract the noncommissionable threshold and returned or canceled sales. Straight-rate commission is that basis × rate; a separate commission-dollar clawback is then subtracted before base pay and bonus are added.

Assumptions

Returned or canceled sales reduce the commissionable sales basis. A commission-dollar clawback separately reduces calculated straight-rate commission; tiers and accelerators are not inferred.

Limits to know

The estimate follows only the entered rate, threshold, and eligible sales. Draws, tiers, splits, clawbacks, returns, collection rules, and written compensation terms may change earned commission.
