Adult BMR uses the published Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Daily energy use is a scenario equal to BMR × the selected conventional activity factor. The optional adjustment is displayed as arithmetic only; it is not a recommended deficit, surplus, intake target, or prediction of weight change. Actual needs vary substantially. Do not use this tool as a diet prescription; pregnancy, illness, eating-disorder concerns, youth, or medically supervised nutrition require qualified care.

How this tool works

The tool estimates adult resting energy expenditure with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation: 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × whole age + 5 for the male equation or −161 for the female equation. Estimated maintenance calories then equal that BMR × the explicitly selected 1.2–1.9 planning factor; the activity factors are not part of the Mifflin study.

Limits to know

The activity multiplier is a visible planning assumption layered onto Mifflin-St Jeor BMR, not a measured energy requirement or part of the cited Mifflin study. Metabolism, body composition, pregnancy, illness, medication, training load, and tracking error can change actual needs; do not use this as a diet prescription.
