Cost of Living Salary Calculator
Estimate an equivalent salary using user-entered cost-of-living indexes.
Cost of Living Salary Calculator result
Record the index publisher and release before relying on this comparison.
What this means: The entered offer is $263.16 above the index-adjusted salary.
Formula, assumptions & limitations
Inputs used: Current annual salary ($); Current-area price index (same source/year); Destination price index (same source/year); Destination offer ($).
Method: Equivalent destination salary = current salary × destination cost index ÷ current-area cost index. The indexes must be comparable observations from the provenance recorded below.
Record the publisher, dataset, geography definitions, base, and observation date. Both indexes must come from the same release. This proportional scenario is not a factual claim about either location and does not model household-specific housing, taxes, benefits, debt, or spending.

How this tool works
Equivalent destination salary equals current salary × destination cost index ÷ current-area cost index. The tool then compares the entered destination offer with that proportional equivalent.
Assumptions
Both positive price indexes must use the same published source, geography definition, base, and year. The destination offer and current salary are annual gross-pay figures.
Limits to know
Index comparisons are meaningful only when both indexes share a source, period, geography definition, and base. Individual housing, tax, family, and lifestyle costs can differ substantially.
