Investment Return Calculator
Calculate gain or loss, total return, and money-weighted annualized return.
Investment Return Calculator result
Method: ending value = starting investment × (1 + monthly rate)months + monthly contribution × [((1 + monthly rate)months − 1) ÷ monthly rate]. The calculator solves that rate and compounds it over 12 months. Contributions are assumed equal and deposited at each month end; years × 12 is rounded to the nearest whole month. Worked example: $10,000 initially plus $200 at each month end for 3 years contributes $17,200; a $20,000 ending value implies a 6.54% money-weighted annualized return. Use XIRR for irregular cash-flow dates. Fees, taxes, withdrawals and inflation are excluded; past performance does not predict future results.

How this tool works
Total return compares the ending value with all contributed capital. Money-weighted annualized return solves the monthly rate implied by the starting investment and equal end-of-month contributions, then compounds it annually.
Limits to know
Monthly contributions are assumed equal and deposited at each month end; irregular amounts or dates require an XIRR calculation. The estimate excludes fees, taxes, withdrawals and inflation, and it does not predict future performance.
